This, the space 'elevator', is probably the most fantastic thing i've ever heard in the way of space travel.amazing and it sems to open up remarkable possibilities for exploration (and tourism).

I've heard about that before and I must say *suprise* I'm a bit skeptical. I know, I know, but I can't get past the idea of the "cable" or whatever moving so fast at one end and being tethered at the other. AND the idea of the extreme temperature changes. AND the enormous length of the cable and it's weight causing such stress on itself.
It just sounds too much like a sub-plot on a Simpsons episode or and an Austin Powers movie...
