The Kingdom and the Power - New York Times

This is the most important thing you can read today or this month about Saudi Arabia (lest you buy Gerald Posner's book: SECRETS OF THE KINGDOM). you read this and think about how it relates to the global thirst for oil and the rise of terrorism...more directly the ability of terrorists to recruit among those that feel they have nothing and no hope of anything better. troubling times ahead.

Actually the terrorists from Saudi Arabia, like Bin Laden and the guys of 9/11 were pretty well off money wise.

A lot of them studied abroad, like in Hamburg Germany, so they weren't poor.

The major problem is that we in the West and especially G.W. doesn't understand the culture there. To modernise means to them westernise, which is mostly true and they don't want that - which I can understand.

The politics in the middle east with Israel and Palastine puts more oil into the fire.

I think we just have to expect that not everything we considers good for us is good for them.
