Gay Marriage Issue Solved in 2004?

How do you take it off the table (or at least try to)? as this question: "Do you agree with the position on gay rights put forward by Vice President Cheney in his 2000 debate with Joe Lieberman?" This puts him in agreement with all the democratic front runners.
