All Music Guide: The PretendersYou know...I really like The Pretenders. Listening here today, I've realized most of their songs I like--even if they sound upbeat--they aren't. I'd call them Stoic but actually desperate. Often an acknowledgement that things aren't working out, but not really a sense of failure. more of a sense that life is moving...as that's what it does...and an acceptance of the fact.
