Another Democrat win!

Congrats to my good friends that worked on this race! Democrat Stephanie Herseth defeats Republican Larry Diedrich in this special election to replace outgoing Republican Bill Janklow.

Representative Janklow had to step down after he was found guilty of manslaughter for killing a motorcyclist.

Too bad she is pro-war, pro-NAFTA, and pretty right-leaning on a lot of issues. Still, it helps out.

I'd be worried that her election might end up losing Daschle his seat on the theory that a state that Republican doesn't want all 3 members of its Congressional delegation to be Democrats. U can bet that'll be the GOP senatorial race talking points memo.

that state is in play...simply put. The senator is going to have a tough race, and there is hope that Herseth will get a little boost being the incumbent.

as for your concerns, BG...she may not be the most liberal democrat in the world...and that's fine with me. neither am i...BUT one thing is clear. this race was a 51/49 election so she very well would not have won if she din't hold the views she holds. we'd likely not have this conversation at all.
