CBS Poll

There was a CBS poll out today that shows Kerry leading bush 49 to 41. it also shows Bush leading Kerry 54 to 40 among veterans. according to Salon.com, what the report doesn't show is that the Vets questioned were a subset of the poll that numbered about 170 people. this leaves a whopping 7% Margin of Error. The odd thing is that The vets (like nearly everyone else) gave bush low marks on virtually every score. their choosing him shows an unwillingness to embrace Kerry yet, and may underline how thin the support is out there for bush (except for his base...which the vets CAN sometimes be).

Bush has become a polarizing President. the folks at Gallup show his approval rating by Democrats vs. Republicans is separated by the largest gap in History. GOP faithful put him in the 90%+ range and Democrats in the 12% range. It is believed that the vast majority of the public fall into one of these two camps. For this reason, Bush's campaign ads seem to be directed at attacking Kerry (75% of the ads) and then somewhat talking about the president's attributes in the rest. the idea is not really to convert anyone but rather to fire up the his base. These folks already like him...they don't have to be sold on him. what they do have to be sold on is just how bad John Kerry is. they need to be made to fear what a Kerry Presidency means because, at least for this calendar year, Bush has been Woefully inadequate at creating stories of his administrations successes. This is why the Bush ads are as negative as have been seen in a generation, at least. What is disappointing is Kerry's own use of flawed facts in his ads. mostly this is just lazy. there are so MANY bad facts out there about bush, fabrications are just plain lazy.
