Le Tigre strikes me as well past their sell by date for hipness quoptient. I mean they were a least two iterations of NYC bands before the Yeah Yeah Yeahs (remember them?). I was also never convinced that they weren't another band whose style held sway over the sbstance of their msuic.

I have both in iTunes currently. Actually, Ladytron just played randomly 5mns before hitting your blog.

I prefer Ladytron over Le Tigre simply because they're a little more chill. Personally, Ladytron sounds a little dated and empty but they do make for fairly chilled atmospheres if you're into that. Reminds me of the whole New Wave movement -- often a little superficial and vacant but a good listen.

Le Tigre is a little too electro-punk for me. Sometimes I'm wildly in the mood... Le Tigre definitely leans towards energy and even a little angst. They're also more "fun" and "party-ish" than Ladytron.

I can mix you a cd, J, if you'd like...

thanks for the advice. i am gonna try and dig something up. if not, i'll buzz you about that cd offer knol.

bulb: i dig what you're saying but this is par for the course for me. my musical tastes, while wide, rarely dip into the hip thing of the moment. I'm notorious for coming across something popular, well after everyone's heard of them (i'm speaking of more 'cutting edge' stuff, whatever that is. I don't mean just general pop). I often just emerse myself into different genres or groups for a bit, and can't be worried about what's passing me by. ExampLe: i spent lots of 2004 following around songs that came from the soundtracks of various blackxpolitation films, another thing i'm often studying up on. that (and other factors) kept lots of new music outta my view recently. do i mind?

nah, not if i have a chance to come across it later. i just wanna get something out of it...even if its a catch melody.

I like both okay, though I give the edge to Ladytron b/c they are named after a Roxy Music song.

Seriously, I think they are a little less one-note, but Le Tigre does sound pretty great on the dance floor at a late-night party.

If you like nostalgic, quasi new-wave and electro sounds (think very 80s), check out Cut Copy and/or Chromeo. You'll probably have a hard time finding any at the local shops so check out the iTunes Music Store for samples... BTW, iTMS is perfect for sampling all of an album's songs without purchasing.

If you have iTunes installed, you can click these links...
