Ann Richards was a housewife. she decided she needed to pull politics in Texas from the exclusive grip of white men. how'd she do that? she ran for governor...and won. I have always admired Richards for her wit as much as for her politics. she died today of cancer at 73. When i was in grad school i did a large research project on women in modern politics. she was one of the central figures at the time. I really respected her like most all who met her. Here's my favorite Richards quote about women doing a 'man's job':
Ginger Rogers did everything Fred Astaire did, only backwards and in high heels.
