OH MY GOD! what a great game so far. New Orleans and Atlanta come into the game undefeated. Its the first game back in the Superdome. The place is SOLD OUT! They sould out all their SEASON TICKETS for the FIRST TIME EVER in the history of the team!! They're playing against one of the most dynamic quarterbacks in he game (Michael Vick) and he's barely been in the game. maybe you know this, but the Saints fans are a beat down bunch. no team has had more losing seasons. no one. We haven't won a monday night football game in over a decade. We didn't have our first winning season for TWENTY YEARS! what a way to overcome the stink of katrina in that dome.
I'm really sort of speechless. the crowd is huge. We're undefeated. We've beat our biggest rival who's also undefeated. We were supposed to be last place, but tonite we're doing so well. Tonite's game plus U2 playing at the pre-game show puts the good of new orleans, the good there now, on display. that city is ready for people to come and visit and experience the place. I really hope this helps. it feels like it already has. i think that place has had the demons exercised tonight.
I feel so good. I LOVE NEW ORLEANS!!
On a side note:
The new rookie superstar Reggie Bush has been extraordinary for the team and the city. Here's a guy that came from USC. He isn't from New Orleans, or anywhere near it. despite this, he's put a rider into ALL of his endorsement deals where if they want to sponsor him for a product, they have to give some of their money to the New Orleans relief effort. extraordinary.

Isn't it interesting how "symbol" can be very important? This place embodied the worst of the Katrina disaster. Football to some represents the quintessential possibility of winning. Together the two things have come together to symbolize the overcoming of the worst with the best. That is good. I think the entire US was cheering for the Saints in this particular face off, perhaps even the Atlanta team. Even their own fans would have turned against them had they won that contest!
When the Yankees played the Diamondbacs in the 2001 world series...with the WTC still smoldering (5 weeks- NOT A YEAR-- after 9/11 the series started)...the YANKEES did not become America's sweetheart team....and yes, it went 7 games...and everyone though "well, the Yankees have to win- give NYC hope"...but what happeend...the Diamondbacks won...and NO ONE HATED THEM FOR IT...
I got weird looks last year cheering for MSU vs TUlane in the first game after the hurricane at a sports bar here....and I was lke "WHAT?"- do you think Tulane wants a pity win? PULEASE...
tragedy is tragedy is tragedy...but there is nothing wrong with NOT liking the saints.
well, i dunno. NY Yanks didn't get to win but they got to play. Until now, the Saints didn't get to PLAY at home!
