This is a Trademark for Jack Kirby.
It's a general action shot, but if you look down there in the corner, there is ALWAYS some guy that's somehow MORE shocked that you, the reader, has come up behind him...compared to the fact that Captain American is mere feet away from him about about to beat him within an inch of his life. I actively seek this guy out whenver i see ANY Kirby artwork!

i really think Kirby is a great artist, but sometimes i find his work utterly bizarre...particularly the physical positioning of the characters. not that i don't like it, just that it sometimes seems very bizarre.
I always think those guys are RUNNING AWAY! But, in a cartoon sense, their feet waaaay ahead of their bodies, which are leaning back and like YI-YI-YIing!
