Next time you talk to someone claiming to be Republican because they are "fiscally conservative", drop this little nugget on them:
The Legislative Confrence Committee (the group that hash's out the difference between House and Senate versions of the same bill) can insert non-debatable points into a bill. this year a record 3,407 'pork barrel' spending projects were inserted into the budget.
Wanna know the number from 1994, the last year the Democrats controlled both the House and Senate?
94.

More generally there's an almost directly proportional relationship between the size of red state victories and the percentage of federal tax dollars returned tto a state. Large Blueish states like CA and NY pay in a lot more than they get back. For every $1.00 sen to D.C., places like say Wyoming and Mississippi get back more than a $1.00's worth of federal goodies. But then that's the game. Complain about something all the while fleecing it for all it's worth.
oh absolutely. mention that to anyone and they tend to blame it on "the blacks" which are considered, somehow, to be the monolithic cause of all spending by the government. you have Reagan and RCCC to thank for that myth.
